Wow! After many days of waiting and preparing, I am finally heading to Munich, Germany for my summer adventure! I am so incredibly excited for this opportunity and grateful that I am about to move to a foreign country for the next two months of my life!
It took me quite a long time to figure out what to pack. I mean, two months means a lot of clothes — and shoes — and Summer in Munich is a whole different thing than Summer in Phoenix. However, after unpacking and repacking and deciding to leave some items at home, I FINALLY DID IT! I packed three bags: one large suitcase, a duffle bag, and a backpack.
I checked the suitcase and am hoping that the Gods of Airport Luggage make sure it arrives on time in one piece. The duffle bag, which I won during the College of Engineering Freshman Solar Oven Throw Down (very applicable to this trip), is stuffed full to the brim and my North Face backpack is filled with all of my essentials including my passport, wallet, and laptop.
It’s going to be a long day of travel for me (I say day because I won’t arrive in Munich until 10am tomorrow). I’m flying out of Phoenix to San Francisco where I have a short 45 minute layover (AHHH!!!) and then I will be off on an 11 hour flight across the Atlantic and, after a tiring 14 hours of travel, I will arrive at the Munich airport. Once I arrive in Munich and find my land-legs again, I will try my best to navigate to the university campus where I am staying. I’ll have to take a train from the airport to the Central Station where I will hop onto another train. Luckily, my big Nicole went on this trip last summer and she asked one of her German friends to help me get to campus. So once I arrive at the final train station, he will be there to welcome me to Munich and take me to the university.
I am crazy excited to be leaving for Germany right now, despite how long and stressful this day of traveling will be. I’ve always been good with directions, but I think today will really put my skills to the test!
Tschüss,
Katie
